  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup warm water

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add buttermilk, softened butter, sugar, salt, and egg to the yeast mixture. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour, mixing until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased loaf pan.
  7. Cover and let it rise again for 30-45 minutes.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Bake the loaf for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  10. Let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use whole milk instead of buttermilk.
  • Store the bread in an airtight container to keep it fresh.
  • This bread can be sliced and frozen for later use.
