A succulent and golden herb butter roasted turkey, perfect for holiday gatherings.

  • 1 whole turkey (1214 lbs)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh thyme, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh sage, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 2 cups chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix the softened butter with rosemary, thyme, sage, garlic, salt, and pepper.
  3. Pat the turkey dry with paper towels and gently loosen the skin over the breast.
  4. Spread the herb butter mixture under the skin and all over the turkey.
  5. Stuff the cavity with quartered onion.
  6. Place the turkey in a roasting pan and pour chicken broth into the bottom of the pan.
  7. Cover the turkey loosely with aluminum foil.
  8. Roast in the preheated oven for about 2.5 to 3 hours, basting occasionally.
  9. Remove the foil in the last 30 minutes to allow the skin to brown.
  10. Check the internal temperature; it should reach 165°F (75°C) in the thickest part of the thigh.
  11. Let the turkey rest for 20-30 minutes before carving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add lemon zest to the herb butter.
  • Make sure to use a meat thermometer for accurate cooking.
  • Leftover turkey can be used in sandwiches or soups.
